Some customer in Boulder may be wondering just how much information is actually on film!! That's a good question. Film is an analogue source, like a painting. There is a certain resolution needed to faithfully capture all the details in a digital form. The following images are a simplification to illustrate some general points and are not exact.
In general it is recommended that you scan at or above the resolution of the film. For 8mm and Super 8 that means scanning at HD or 2K.

Boulder Fun Facts: Later years saw a different kind of industry with the arrival of the National Bureau of Standards (which today is the National Institute of Standards and Technology, home of the atomic clock) and the National Center for Atmospheric Research. In 1996, the city received notoriety as the locale of the still unsolved mystery of the killing of six-year-old JonBen't Ramsey. The Colorado city of Boulder is the county seat of Boulder County and also the county's largest city. Perched at an elevation of 5,400 feet above sea-level, the city is located 30 miles northwest of the Colorado state capital of Denver.
Colorado Fun Facts: Colorado, which joined the union as the 38th state in 1876, is America’s eighth largest state in terms of land mass. Located in the Rocky Mountain region of the western United States, the state’s abundant and varied natural resources attracted the ancient Pueblo peoples and, later, the Plains Indians. First explored by Europeans in the late 1500s (the Spanish referred to the region as “Colorado” for its red-colored earth), the area was ceded to the United States in 1848 with the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo that ended the Mexican-American War (1846-48). In 1858, the discovery of gold in Colorado attracted new settlers.
